Dice balance.

While doing the first Watchmen die (Comedian) I expected, and found, that with such a big metal smiley on one face, the balance of the die will be way off. Some throws later, it was clear that the die outcome was biased to “6”. Also, you could clearly see that whenever the smiley was almost facing up, or down, the die would finish rolling really hard.

Just because our dice need to (should) be fair, one nice addition to my tools is a digital pocket scale. This way, I can balance the die up to a 10mg (0.00035 ounces!) tolerance. After adding two small 2mm steel balls (plus the weight of the number “6” itself), the die regained it’s much needed randomness.

As a side note, I will NOT make unbalanced dice.
